A springer spaniel from the Dales will lead the fight against arson in the East Midlands, after becoming a fully-trained fire investigator.
Two-year-old Freckle – who was donated to the fire service by an Eyam family – will attend dangerous fire scenes with his expert handler Dave Cross.

And Freckle will wear his own fireman's suit as he sniffs out valuable evidence to help find the cause of fires.

Handler Dave said: "I have been training him since March last year and as well as being trained to find flammable liquids, Freckle has had to get used to wearing fire boots, which protect his feet at fire scenes."

Freckle's new home will be at the East Midlands Regional Fire Investigation Dog Unit in Alfreton.
