James Rice from Peak Promotion reviews The Educatables' latest gig at the Fishpond.

The Educatables, a young band from Chesterfield, kick off the night at the Fishpond in Matlock Bath with a Kaiser Cheifs cover 'Everything is Average Nowadays' - I hope that their music tonight isn't "average".

Playing to a small, intimate audience, there is a good atmosphere even though they clearly haven't fully established a fan base in the area yet. They played a mix of indie music with some Brian Adams and Jimmi Hendrix. Whilst listening I realised there was a strange dynamic within the band. The drummer seems to take over lead vocals on a lot of songs where I am left to answer: who is the front man?

They finally play an original of theirs called 'Aftershow Party', a mid-tempo indie tune with a nice hook performed with slight trepidation. The latter half of the night livens up and the band really gets into the zone. You have to admire this young bands effort, they are still young but they have great potential.

I recommend going to see The Educatables. To find out when and where they are performing next visit their myspace page at www.myspace.com/educatables.
