A LAVISH period drama set in India in the time of the British Raj is being screened at the Medway Centre in Bakewell.
Before The Rains is a 2008 movie which depicts a fatal culture clash and a forbidden passion between master and servant.

It is the latest screening in this season's programme that is being presented by the Bakewell and Ashford Film Society (BASH).

As well as being beautifully shot on location in Kerala, the film's music by Mark Kilian was nominated in the Discovery Of The Year section at the World Soundtrack Awards.

It stars Linus Roache – son of Derbyshire actor and Coronation Street star William – and Nandidta Das as the pair of star-crossed lovers.

Admission for non-members is £4 on the door and refreshments will be served beforehand and during the interval.

Future films to be shown by BASH are the Charlie Chaplin comedy Modern Times on March 14; Ken Loach's controversial The Wind That Shakes The Barley on April 11; the Oscar-winning The Last King Of Scotland on May 9 and French drama The Swimming Pool on June 13 (members' only summer film and social).

For further information about the film society, contact Linda Pelc on 01629 815280, John Winter on 01629 812776 or or Joy Thrower 01629 814863.

Before the Rains will be screened on Sunday, February 14, at 7.30pm.
