After taking Derbyshire by storm and claiming victory in the Y Not festival's Battle of the Band Competition, the five-piece are set to open the event tomorrow.

Serotonin, made up of vocalist Oli Taylor Fry, guitarists Jack Haystead and Nick Forest, bassist Sam Neely and Joe Cooper on drums also headlined Ashley Hay Festival in May and are to take centre stage at Gig on the Roof as part of Wirksworth Festival in September.

Drummer Joe said the band had been up against some stiff competition in the Y Not contest.

He added: "We all knew that it was going to be hard work from the beginning; we have practised really hard to prove to ourselves that we could do it. We didn't expect to win or even get as far as we did.

"We were against some very talented musicians who knew their instruments inside out and had a really good stage presence.

"It was such a rush and an amazing feeling knowing the audience appreciated our songs we had written in the band. I can only say that we were overwhelmed with the support from our fans and can't wait to see where Serotonin's future will take us next."

Describing themselves as a grunge progressive rock band, with hints of jazz and punk thrown in, the bands influences range from Metallica, Audioslave, Nirvana and Rage Against the Machine to Queens of the Stone Age, Pink Floyd, Soundgarden and Muse.

Covers to get the crowd on their toes include Steppenwolf's ballad Magic carpet ride and Dont Fear the Reaper from the Blue Oyster Cult.

The lads have just recorded a live album which they will be giving out for free at gigs and hope to do a professional recording in a couple of months.
