A MUCH-LOVED Peak District arts festival will celebrate its tenth anniversary with a bumper schedule of high-quality music, theatre and literature events.
Bakewell Arts Festival returns with what organisers believe is its best ever line-up of shows, with international stars sharing the schedule with local heroes.

Janette Hockley-Webster, from Arts in the Peak, said: “It’s the 10th Anniversary of Bak
ewell Arts Festival and it’s been a rich, varied, inspiring and entirely memorable 10 years.

“Appropriately, this year’s programme is without doubt the best yet and is a decisive one in the festival’s history and in its future,” she added.

Among the highlights are the visit of Australian superstar and former INXS frontman Jon Stevens, who will appear with his band Noiseworks, at Thornbridge Hall.

And iconic folk singer Shirley Collins, who will give a talk about her travels across America with the world’s most famous musicologist, Alan Lomax.

The biggest names in local entertainment will share the bill with popular Derbyshire acts sure to guarantee large crowds of loyal supporters.

Dales bands will appear at the Live on the Lorry open-air gig in Bakewell town centre, THe Peacock Players will perform Cards, Cups and Crystal Balls and Bakewell Silver Band will delight their loyal fanbase with an outside concert.

Culture-vultures can enjoy a performance by new Poet Laureate of the Peak Ann Atkinson, and an art exhibition featuring Ghislaine Howard’s Stations of the Cross canvas paintings.

There will also be a chance to get a behind-the-scenes tour of Haddon Hall with expert guides telling fascinating stories about the estate’s rich past.
