This picture of cheeky Brownies was also brought into the office by Janet Kirk (nee Batterley).

It shows Cromford Brownies posing for the camera in the late 1940s.

Janet is standing fourth from the left on the back row.

She said: “I don’t remember exactly when it was taken, but it must have been around 1947 or 1948 as we would have been nine or ten years old at the time.

“I have lovely memories of the Brownies. Brown Owl was Miss Stamp, who later became Mrs Fullwood.

“She ran Cromford Brownies and then the Girls’ Friendly Society. I don’t know what happened to the GFS, it must have just faded away.

“She was also a teacher and she taught at Cromford School.”
