Fond memories as fountain returns

Have your say

As a 13-year-old girl May Kirkland served glasses of spa water to visitors to Matlock Bath Pavilion in 1913.

At 1d per glass she remembered selling 240 over one Bank Holiday, earning her praise from Pump Room manager Percy Rowbottom.

The marble spa water dispenser was taken out of storage and restored in 1986. And who better to take the first drink than Mrs Kirkland, at the age of 86?
