Matlock youngster John Gower was all smiles after scooping a national award for young journalists.
Fifteen-year-old John won the Newsround Young Reporter of the Year in 1995.
The award was in recognition of the profoundly deaf youngster’s report on television, subtitling for Newsround.
John initiated and presented the report for the BBC1 children’s news programme – and his action eventually led to it having subtitles.
Mum, Mally Gower, of Wellington Street, Matlock, said she was proud of John and that he had achieved something for deaf children throughout the country.
Mrs Gower added that John, a pupil at Derby’s Royal Deaf School, wanted to be a television reporter when he left school.
