Two members of Stanton Lees Chapel risked many hardships in 1982 on a six-day mission to deliver food to people in crisis-torn Warsaw.
Darley Dale’s Fred Briddon (left) and Stanton’s Trevor Holmes drove over 3000 miles in a 22 cwt Bedford van with over £1,300 worth of food weighing 1.5 tonnes.
There first problem the courageous duo encountered was at the East German border crossing, though.
The pair were interrogated for more than four hours before being charged an extra £68 .
But that didn’t stop Fred and Trevor, who were soon back on the road to deliver their cargo to the people who needed it.
