A giant reel of paper weighing 1.5 tonnes was hurled down Sydnope Hill, in Two Dales, when the lorry carrying it crashed.

Householders were shocked when they realised the “missile” was wedged only feet from the side of their property.

Barbara Pyatt said: “I ran to the phone to alert the emergency services and seconds later I was conscious of another bang.

“It was only when I went into the kitchen and looked through the window that I realised what a narrow escape we all had.”
