No-one was seriously injured when this nine-ton lorry careered through the window of Derwent Valley Co-operative Society shop in Mtalock’s Crwon Square in the 1950s.

The lorry was travelling down Steep Turnpike when the driver appeared to lose control when the drive shaft broke.

He joined Causeway Lane at speed and steered towards Crown Square where it crashed into the shop and came to rest six feet inside, smashing a marble counter and bacon slicer.
