ON show to proud parents – these youngsters at Woodlands School, in Wellington Street in Matlock, are pictured at parents’ day in 1954.

They include Kathryn Taylor, Priscilla Bailey, Belinda Jones, Rosemary Upton, Eleanor Dobson, Christine Cook, John Thompson, Richard Wain, Norman Pheasey, Dvaid Allen, Margaret Black, JJennifer Black, Michael Platts, Brian Tunnicliffe and Anthea Derbyshire.

Earlier the school was situated on Bakewell Road in Matlock and headmistress and founder was Winifred Dimmock.

Formerly Miss Winifred White, she was the sister of Alderman Charles White and up to its closure the school was always known affectionately as “Miss White’s”.
