A brave boy is pictured here being rescued from a disused mine shaft on Masson Hillside.
The police, fire and ambulance services all rushed to the rescue of 12–year–old Andrew Peat, of Nottingham, after he plunged 80 feet down the old shaft.
The accident occurred after the youngster strayed onto a privately–owned field.
Leading the rescue was station officer Tony Allen, and pulling Andrew to the surface was firemen John Waller, Bill Hodkin, Mick Allen, Arthur Parks and John Eccarius.
Ambulance men Ted Widdeson and Bert Thomas were also on hand to help out.
