Matlock Town 1-0 Witton Albion
DANNY Davidson scored the goal which gave Mark Atkins' Matlock Town renewed hope in their battle to beat relegation.

Davidson, on loan from Alfreton Town, exploited a defensive mix-up on the stroke of half time to poke the ball home in a scrappy six-pointer of few chances.

Although the win means the Gladiators still stay in the drop zone, only goal difference keeps them below 18th-placed Whitby Town.

Crucially, the result also keeps Witton mired in the dogfight.

By coincidence, Witton and Whitby meet on Wednesday night.

As well as hoping their rivals take points off each other Atkins' men will be looking for another three of their own at third bottom Cammell Laird next Saturday.
