Matlock Town 2-0 Hednesford Town
GOALS from Ross Hannah and Jamie Jackson kept Matlock Town in with a fighting chance of maintaining their UniBond Premier Division status.

The advantage of being involved in the only evening kick-off with the rest of the division having played in
the afternoon meant that Matlock knew a win would lift them out of the relegation zone.

Hannah's well-taken 12th minute strike set them on their way against a busy and pacy Hednesford side, one-time leaders whose play-off hopes are now all but fading.

But Matlock always looked the better side and confirmed it on 64 minutes when Ashley Foyle's towering header from Danny Wood's right wing corner was flicked in on the line by Jamie Jackson.

Matlock travel to relegated Leigh Genesis on Saturday, but fate is still not in their hands.

Both clubs immediately below them, Witton Albion and Whitby Town have a game in hand - albeit against each other on the Yorkshire coast on April 22.

Whitby and Witton are both on the road as well this weekend at Buxton and Worksop respectively, the latter two teams still requiring a point or so to be absolutely sure of safety.

Cammell Laird, a place and a point better off than Matlock, are at home to Frickley Athletic.

The other team in the relegation mix, Boston United, go to Ossett, although the Pilgrims also have a game in hand, at Nantwich on Tuesday.
