The mother of a Matlock schoolboy who has leukaemia is fuming after other patients complained about him being allowed in first for hospital blood tests.
Carol Isaacs, from Crich, takes son Connor to Ripley Hospital for blood tests every few weeks and arrives in time for its 7.30am opening to make sure he can catch the bus to Highfields School.

Last week husband Martin was told complaints had been made about the youngster going first and from now on he would wait like everyone else.

Carol, of Coast Hill, said: "I can't believe people have complained and the hospital haven't turned around and said we'll let him through, he's only a child."

She said since Connor had started senior school the hospital had allowed him to go in first.

"We try and get there as early as we can so we don't jump the queue – they have always said 'just come through' – we are in and out in two minutes.

"I can't believe people are being like this. It's not like we're doing it all the time. Next week we will wait because it's the holidays."

Connor has been suffering with the condition for three years and is due to complete treatment in October.

The family wants to avoid him missing school as much as possible as his illness has meant he has already had time off.

A spokesperson for Derbyshire Primary Care Trust, said: "The phlebotomy team at Ripley Community Hospital take blood tests from 7.30am until 12.30pm, and have to accommodate a lot of patients with different needs, including children who need to get to school and patients who have to get to work.

"As with any service there are peaks and troughs in the levels of attendance from different patients, and unfortunately it is not always possible to prioritise the needs of one patient over others.

"The staff here will always ensure that children are seen in plenty of time to get to school."

Do you think people are out of hand for complaining? Leave a comment below and let us know.

Without knowing the circumstances of the people who are complaining I cannot say weather or not they are out of hand, but for Connor I will say this, If he is willing to be there early enough to go in first, then there should not be anything to complain about. Some lads would no doubt take the morning off, But it seems that Connor would rather not do that. Good on you lad, for setting a good example.

For goodness sake. Isn't he going through enough? How narrow minded of these people-probably those that moan about the lost community spirit that we used to have. Where is their support? They can only think about themselves The sad world of me, me, me. Well shame on them! Please Ripley hospital -stand your ground and say NO-the least he deserves is this. He is 12 YEARS OLD. Well done Connor and good luck!
