TRADER Nigel Allwood has announced he is leaving Matlock Market on Saturday after a rapid decline in business.
District and county councillor Mr Allwood said trade had dropped by 60 per cent over the Christmas period, compared to last year.

His fruit and veg stall has been a family business for almost 76 years and Cllr Allwood said he faced an uncertain future as he did not have a new job to go to.

He added: "Trade has gone completely and the market has died a thousand deaths. I don't want a swan song about the fact I am leaving but I'm very bitter."

Cllr Allwood said the fall in trade was due to factors including the Sainsbury's store and relief road taking away trade.

He added: "My father would be turning in his grave."
