Madam,

Regarding the article on the care home inspection report (Matlock Mercury, May 28), I feel that we, the family of Laura Mavis Loydall, would like to say how appalled we are with the criticism of the Newstead Care Home.
My mother has been a resident for almost 12 months during which time we have been extremely satisfied with the care she has received.

As a family we went through a very upsetting time before she went to live in Newstead.

This was our choice wit
h the recommendation of social services.
Respite had been received previously at another local home but Newstead was far superior.

The management, staff and residents could not have been kinder for which we thank them very much indeed.

They are the most loyal, caring and hard-working staff you could wish to meet.

They express all their love and kindness to the residents.
After this report and remarks made, the staff must be at their lowest ebb.

The job they do is not easy, they are very special people who take these appointments.

The Christmas infection outbreak was reported immediately to our family and we were asked not to visit until the infection ceased.

My mother was one of the poorly residents and the care she received during this time could not be faulted.

The staff were also affected by the infection which made staffing very difficult but they carried on with understanding and care.

Residents are happy with their home and you only have to visit to see and feel the happy atmosphere.

Visitors are met with happy staff, made to feel welcome and always offered tea or coffee on arrival.

They immediately discuss any problems and sit down and talk with us like family members.

The food is excellent, all home made, beautifully presented, offering an excellent choice.

The dining room is set to perfection.

The home is spotlessly clean and we have never experienced urine odours when entering the home.

Yes, we accept that inspections are made and procedures have to be adhered to.

From our own experience they are improving all recommendations required by the continual inspection, including training with the staff and home improvements.

We take our hats off to them all and thank them for the excellent job they do.
