The reason for the very long slope is due to the requirements of the Disabled Discrimination Act (DDA) which basically means it needs to allow wheel chair access. I don't have a problem with this.
It has changed what was an inviting view of
the station into something different that we will all just have to get used to. I mean, lets face it, they are not going to change it.
Maybe the lessons to be learnt for the developers is to create some artist's impressions well beforehand to enable everyone to comment before the bridge design is finalised.
The concerns I have about it are as follows:
The colour of black doesn't look to pleasant, a brighter, maybe more multi-colourful appearance would help.
It would also help hide the no doubt countless amount of graffiti it is inevitably going to receive from the vandals, who must be queuing up with their spray cans as we speak. Something could be done about this, maybe a project for a local community group?
The other aspect to its colour is that the size of the bridge makes vehicle access rather tight to get to the station forecourt.
I would have thought that the pillars and ramp edge would have been painted a brighter colour to help prevent drivers at night from going into it! Something could be done about this with a lick of fluorescent paint.
The bridge section that goes over the station building concerns me too, in the sense that I suspect it won't be long before they have people (probably young lads as usual) climb over to get onto the roof of the station getting up to mischief.
No doubt, if they fall off, they will sue for damages for not preventing them getting onto the roof in the first place. Something could be done about this with a bit of suitable and aesthetically acceptable fencing.
