Madam,
Our Prime Minister last year went to Kenya, promised to give them millions in aid of our taxpayers' money.
Due to the wholesale corruption there this will end up making the rich richer and the poor poorer.

A few weeks ago he went to China and India.

These being the two countries who have the fastest growing economies in the world.

What did he do?
- give them more of our millions. Who agreed to this?

Our own country is hundreds of billions of pounds in debt. Even the Labour Party itself is millions in debt.

The total debt owed by people in this country is over a trillion pounds, this is a lot of noughts and its all getting worse.

Over the last few years tax has been added to almost everything.

We all know how much fuel prices have increased, partly due to oil rich countries and partly due to our Government.

Gordon Brown increased this by two pence per litre last September and a further two pence to be added in April.

However, in the small print VAT is then added to this two pence making it 2.35 pence, in other words we pay a tax on a tax.

Every train is diesel, thus up go train fares, every bus is diesel, up go bus fares, every lorry and van, which deliver everything from toilet rolls to TVs runs on diesel, thus every item we buy is going to increase.

One could fill a whole page in the Mercury with these extra 'stealth' taxes and we are still in debt and it's rapidly increasing.

I am a pensioner, paid taxes all my life, I will get a £2.80 per week increase in my state pension in April, equivalent to £145.6 per year.

My electricity bill has just been increased by £118 per year, my Council Tax looks like being increased by about £96 per year.

Just these two total £214.

This year, therefore, I will be £96 worse off than last year and gas, fuel, food, insurance have all yet to be increased as well.

Everyone complains but nothing ever gets done.

All your readers, hopefully, will be pensioners one day, but there is not a lot to look forward to whilst our high-spending Government look after others and not their own.

Poverty now equals pensioners.
