But we have seen many roads not gritted and grit bins empty, with Derbyshire County Council Highways Offices telling us that they are running short of grit.
But back in November, the highways department of the now Conservative-controlled Derbyshir
e County Council aid: "We will not have to make a bulk order at the start of the year, which could be too large – instead we will bring in new supplies as and when needed."
And from inside sources it has come to my knowledge that the drivers of the gritting lorries are being told to go ten miles more than they used to do per load.
If supplies of grit had been built up over the summer, we would not be in the situation we are now in.
There is an old saying: 'save a penny waste a pound', but a new saying may well be: 'save a penny and put lives in danger'.
The county council is trying to get it over that it is saving money, but it is not saving money with people and communities stranded and many people not getting to work in some cases due to lack of grit.
If this is going to be the new face of the county council we are going to have a tough time.
