A Bakewell man has appeared in court charged with illegally giving the impression of being a police officer.
Stephen Lesley Downing, 52, of Milford, Bakewell, pleaded not guilty to a charge that on February 16 at the Aldi store, Station Road, Buxton he "wore an article or articles of police uniform in circumstances where he gave an appearance so nearly resembling that of a member of a police force to be calculated to deceive".

A charge of impersonating a police officer was withdrawn.

The case was adjourned for trial until October 13 at High Peak Magistrates Court at 10am.

Downing was released on unconditional bail.
