Friends and family have paid tribute to a brave charity campaigner who lost his battle with cancer after raising over £14,000 for the disease.
Bakewell man Ian Hughes, 39, began fundraising for Weston Park Hospital, after being diagnosed with cancer in July 2006.

Ian, known for his flowing golden locks, had his head shaved for charity at Bakewell show in 2006, along with friends and fellow Bakewell folk Sharon and Mark Wakeman.

Sharon, who was also treated at Weston Park for lymphoma, said: "When I was diagnosed Ian supported me and I was the first person he told.

"He was just like a brother to me. He was so caring and considerate."
Ian was well known around Bakewell after spending several years delivering Co-op shopping in the town.

Fellow Co-op worker and fundraiser Ali Rowland said Ian raised a total of £14,615 for the Weston Park cancer appeal, through several events including an auction at the Manners pub in Bakewell.

Ali said: "The support we had was fantastic.

"Ian wanted a wake he could go to. We combined it altogether with the fundraising and had a brilliant night. There were so many people there for him."

Ali said Ian's funeral was overflowing with friends and relatives.
She added: "Everybody knew him. You would see him flying down to work on his bike with his long hair flowing behind him.

"He was just fantastic, one of the best people you could ever meet.

"He was such a wonderful man it was unbelievable."

Ian's mother, June Hughes, said she has been overwhelmed by the kind comments she has received from people.

She added: "So many people have said to me he was special."

A charity quiz is being organised in Ian's memory. Quiz sheets will be £1, available from Bakewell Pet Shop.
