PASSENGERS had a lucky escape when the bus they were travelling on went up in flames.
Fire crews were called to Ashford-in-the-Water at around 2pm today (Friday May 29) after a Transpeak bus caught light near to the Ashford Arms hotel.
Bus-users alerted the driver after spotting smoke and a passing motor biker flagged down the coach after noticing flames.
Everyone got off the bus and crews from Matlock were called to tackle to the blaze.
A Derbyshire Fire Service spokeswoman said crews left at around 4.30pm.
A police spokesman said the fire was likely to have been cause by over-heated brakes.
No one was injured. A lamppost and nearby bus shelter were damaged.
Severn Trent was also called to the scene after man-hole covers were blown off and the environment agency was contacted to clear a fuel leak.
Police were waiting for bosses from Trent Barton to recover the bus.
