MORE THAN 1,200 brave ramblers donned their walking boots and coats for a wet and windy 17-mile charity hike.
The British Heart Foundation is yet to count the takings from Sunday's High Peak Trail Winter Challenge, but hopes it will have raised around £100,000 for its life-saving projects.

Regional head of events Ian Jenkinson thanked everyone who supported and participated in the sponsored trek, which took place on a cold and rainy day.

Mr Jenkinson said: "We had a fantastic turnout and I hope the event will be even bigger when it returns next year.

"Sadly heart disease remains the UK's biggest killer and it is only with your support at events like this we can continue our fight to beat it."

Former Derby County Football Club chairman Peter Gadsby joined walkers on the picturesque route between Hurdlow and Cromford.
