DANGEROUS drivers have been targeted at crash hotspots in the Dales following complaints from residents.
Safer Neighbourhood policing teams in Wirksworth and Cromford carried out checks at Steeple Grange and Derby Road, in Wirksworth, and The Hill, in Cromford.

Residents have reported problems such as speeding, dangerous driving and nuisance motorists. Both areas have been identified as priority problems by the policing teams.

The campaign saw police working with officers from the Casualty Reduction and Enforcement Support Team during the two-day operation this month.

Safer Neighbourhood Team Sergeant Jim Thompson said: "Residents often tell us their concerns about traffic issues such as unsafe driving and speeding.

"The operation with CREST focuses on both enforcement and driver education, which will help to keep the roads safe for all users in the area."

Cautions or fixed penalty notices were given out to 74 drivers and passengers for not wearing a seatbelt, 22 drivers for speeding, three people for driving while using a mobile phone, 12 for vehicle defects and ten motorcyclists were advised about wearing reflective clothing.

Sgt Thompson added: "A lot of people know that they should wear a seatbelt when in the front but we are keen to stress the importance for passengers to wear them when in the back seat also.

"In a crash at 30mph an unrestrained passenger in the back seat of vehicle will hit the front seats at a force of between 30 and 60 times their body weight.

"This could kill or seriously injure a person sitting in the front."
