Wildlife enthusiasts had a chance to dip into conservation training during an event in Matlock Bath.
Derbyshire Wildlife Trust held a free training session on ponds and pond life at the Whistlestop Centre on Saturday, led by the Trust's local wildlife sites officer Trevor Taylor.

Volunteers looked at why ponds were important and learnt how to create and manage them.

They then surveyed a pond and identified some of the species found.

The event was one of a series of courses being delivered by the Trust in partnership with Open Air Laboratories (OPAL).

Tim Brooks, Derbyshire Wildlife Trust's people and wildlife manager, said: "This year is International Year of Biodiversity, a great time to be getting out and learning more about the fascinating natural world around us."
