Young film buffs have been capturing the county's underground history for a new school DVD.
Pupils from Anthony Gell School in Wirksworth have been working with staff at Derbyshire County Council's White Hall Outdoor Education Centre to produce a film called Our Hidden Heritage – the History of Lead Mining in the Peak District.

Students went on trips down mines to shoot underground footage for the documentary, which also features interviews with staff from the Matlock Bath Mining Museum.

Derbyshire County Council Cabinet Member for Young People, Tracy Critchlow, said: "This is an impressive project which has created an excellent teaching aid for use in the county's schools.

"Resources like this DVD give a great insight into what life was like working underground and help our children understand their heritage."

The project was funded with a £17,000 grant from the Young Roots Programme which is run by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
