THE sights and sounds of India came to Matlock to mark the re-opening of a refurbished restaurant.
Maazi owner Irfan Shabir bought the Bollywood experience to the town with a party at his Causeway Lane restaurant on Tuesday evening.

The event followed a giant make-over to the building and Mr Shabir said he hoped the revamp would make the iconic Ritz building a feature for the town.

He added: "We have spent £150,000 doing up the building which will be here for the long term – we are investing in the community."

Colourfully dressed musicians gathered outside the restaurant and took part in Dhol drumming while customers and guests enjoyed glasses of Champagne.

The refurbishment to the building followed a planning wrangle with Derbyshire Dales District Council after officers ordered Mr Shabir to remove unauthorised banners from his restaurant.

Council officers said they would take court action if the banners, which informed customers the restaurant was having a make-over, were not taken down.
