EXCITED youngsters Felicity Finlayson and Helena Granger made a new four-legged friend on Tuesday during a trip to a donkey sanctuary.
The lucky Stoney Middleton Primary School pupils presented Pathos the donkey with a cheque for £110, which students raised for Freshfields Donkey Sanctuary by selling home-made buns and cakes.
The pair, aged nine and ten, learned how 600 gentle donkeys are cared for at the Peak Forest centre, which was founded in 1988 by John and Annie Stirling.
Headteacher Chris Tupling said: "It was a charity the children had chosen and was something they really felt we should support.
"The donkey village has asked us to name two donkeys and we've also adopted one, called Sky," he added.
The girls were able to pet, groom and feed some of the 600 rescued donkeys which are looked after at the Peak Forest sanctuary, which is funded by The Michael Elliott Trust.
