Matlock folk have created social networking pages that both support and oppose a fast food chain in the town.
So far 165 people have joined the Matlock McDonalds Facebook website, which is campaigning for the development.

The group thinks it would be a good idea to have a McDonalds in the town and have put forward possible locations including the former Madison's site on Bakewell Road.

However, those that are against the idea have set up their own group called No McDonalds in Matlock. So far 11 people have joined this group.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
There is enough litter from the chip shops, out of town Mcdonalds and "other take away" outlets to keep us knee deep in trash for the next few years without bringing one to the heart of the town.
Just ask yourself one question "Do you want flies with that"

The idea of Iceland coming to town is bad enough but a Muchdonalds really would be the nail in the coffin for Matlock. Come on people- we need life and vitality in the town not tat and fat!

Aaaaargh. Please don't let this happen.

It would be a TERRIBLE idea to introduce a McDonalds into Matlock. I already see far too much litter from McD's around the area (goodness knows where it all comes from). I echo the concerns of "Artist Corner Resident" that litter in Matlock is out of control already.

I don't know if people realise that we were very close to having a McDonalds on the Sainsburys site? The plans were approved for a drive-thru where the petrol station is currently sited, but it was dropped at the last hour in favour of more parking spaces. I breathed a sigh of relief at the time.

Can we have some balance to this article? Perhaps a link should be provided to an Anti-McDonalds campaign?

Well personally, I have no preference either way. But I do think that it would be better sited to the town centre rather than a drive through.....

Double Sausage & Egg McMuffin, the god of breakfasts. It's a balance of litter and bringing more people into the town centre, i suspect Mcdonalds would cause the latter.

Hi Lone Starr,
We'd be happy to tell anyone about an anti-McDonalds in Matlock group if someone started one up!

Oh for Gawds sake. Move with the times. We live in Wirksworth. The end of the world. doorway to nothingness. yes its pretty but we have considered moving away just to get to somewhere with life. McDonalds, isn't all about burgers. Its about Coffee's, somewhere to go on a night instead of being stuck in. We could do with something round here but Matlock is about the closest we will get. What is it with residents there? you didn't want Sainsburys. Don't want a Tesco, moaning about Iceland. Do you want it to become a ghost town? Because that is what it will become. Yes litter can be a problem, but not if the staff do their jobs properly. We see wrappers here and there isn't one nearby. The same as we do sweet wrappers, chip papers, cans, dog mess...the list goes on. I have never yet seen a MD where it is messy outside. The local chippy is worse.
You want to start a group, start one called clean up after dogs. Much more healthy for children round here!

As long as it is in the town centre it's going to bring people into town which is what we need. No I don't eat Mcdonalds but lots of people do and we can't have everything our own way. It's simple if you don't like Mcdonalds or big chain stores don't go to them but don't ruin it for those that do. These types of businsses whether we like it or not are those that draw customers into town centres in their thousands each year.

Matlock people should stop been so negative. they are limiting the towns development all the time by objecting to every plan that is ever released.

We can't all get to Chesterfield and most of us want to shop on our own doorstep. So sorry, move with the times or internet trading will kill off Matlock

Well said Squash!
Lets face it, if they wanted to open up a health food eating place, those that were unlikely to eat there wouldn't protest.
I fear we are in a minority though. We will be told its all for the good of the town that we don't have anything big come to it.
