A RECORD number of sprinting Santas swapped their black boots for running shoes for an annual charity dash.
The 287 Santas braved the wind and rain for the 3.5-mile run at Carsington Water with 265 completing the course.

The annual event, organised by Wirksworth Rotary Club, saw competitors don the uniform of the man in red to raise money for Rainbows Children's Hospice.

The overall winner was Richard Bradley with Amy Stone named as the winner of the ladies race.

Veteran Brian Howitt was the oldest competitor at 74.

Over £2,500 was raised for the Loughborough-based children's hospice, which helps sick youngsters.

Rotary club president Peter Watson said: "The Rotary Club of Wirksworth and Rainbows Hospice are extremely grateful for the fantastic support received and we all look forward to next year's event."
