Move over Sir Steve Redgrave – Georgina Needham and her classmates are about to row for 24 hours to raise more than £1,000 to help seriously ill children make their dreams come true.
The 17-year-old student from Darley Dale will be pulling strokes of the charitable kind next Tuesday and Wednesday when she and around 30 others from the University of Derby's Buxton campus take part in the event.

It all starts at 12noon on Tuesday and the participants will work in a relay system on rowing machines to get them through the 'rowathon'.

Georgina is studying for a BTEC national diploma in uniformed public services and has hopes of joining the police or becoming a paramedic.

Her course includes weekly fitness sessions, which she and her fellow students have been using as training for their epic voyage.

Every penny they make by the end of their feat will go to the Make A Wish Foundation, which helps youngsters suffering life-threatening diseases to realise their dreams.
