A MYSTERIOUS unidentified flying object has once again been spotted in the Dales.
Stephen Green, of the Cavendish area of Matlock, contacted the Mercury after spotting a light in the sky which appeared to be a helicopter on fire.

He said: "Whatever it was it was orange coloured with 'flickering' around the edges. It was at a he
ight which I would describe as a normal helicopter height and travelled from the general direction of Chatsworth and went towards south Chesterfield before disappearing.

"There was no noise at all from whatever it was and it had no fixed or flashing navigation nights. As it was dark I could not make out the shape but it was orange and the edges maintained their flickering feature throughout the sighting which probably lasted for two to three minutes in total."

The sighting took place on Friday September 25 at around 9pm.

Mr Green said his two daughters and their friend also saw the 'thing in the sky.'

He added: "My youngest daughter thinks it was a lantern but the others disagree – however they cannot come up with an answer.

"I have never seen anything like this before and find it frustrating that I cannot come up with a rational explanation for what we saw."

"The height and speed characteristics were those of a helicopter but there was no noise whatsoever and no aircraft navigation lights. The orange glow and the flickering periphery to the form just add to my questions about this sighting."

Have you seen something strange in the sky or have an explanation about what it could have been?

Chinese lanterns are very popular at this time of the year - I've seen them for sale in Rowsley, not far from the place where this "UFO" was spotted. (Might get some myself if it sparks a lame news story).

See thats what they want you to think!
Aliens are clearly targeting Matlock. who knows what they want!
Human experiment? They tried DDC and DDDC and found no sign of life or intelligence, so no hope there....
Maybe they have the answer to Matlocks traffic problems, they want to tell us but couldnt park anywhere..
OR
They want to have a couple of "Freebies" every year and want to twin Matlock with Planet Zog!

Now then. Only the other day did I gaze up into the sky in sheer wonderment! Rising slowly out of the east, a yellow disc caught my attention - it clearly didn't mind any eagle-eyed human spying it, as it took a very leisurely pace across the heavens, heading west throughout the day. My thoughts are that, whoever "they" are, they might have been on a reconnaissance mission, scoping out how we of puny mind manage to function on a daily basis. I drew the Widow Poindexter's attention towards the mysterious 'object', whereupon she dashed hastily inside and wouldn't come out until evening. This vexed me more than somewhat, as it meant I had to walk home, which isn't easy, as I injured my leg when I thought in the war, you know.

My wife and I saw this at 11.00pm in Bakewell whilst waiting for a bus back to Buxton, we are very cynical and don't believe in UFO's, but this really made us think, we watched it for several minutes and thought it was too big to be a Chinese lantern and totally agree with Stephen's description.

"My wife and I saw this at 11.00pm in Bakewell...."

Hmmmm, post-pub Mr Tiggercat?

Seriously though, I think there can be no doubt at all now, this thing was DEFINITELY an alien craft.
