A PIONEERING Matlock woman is setting off for Madagascar to help residents of the island set up sustainable development projects.
Vivyan Lisewski will be arriving on the island on October 5, to take part in a ten week charity project.

She has secured a place on one of the four annual Pioneer schemes run by the charity Azafady.

Azafady runs projects in rural southeast Madagascar supporting environmental, humanitarian and sustainable development projects.

As part of the scheme, Viv and her partner John Hobson need to raise a minimum donation of £3,000.

This goes directly to support Azafady's work. Viv and John have paid for their own costs to get to Madagascar and for their expenses while on the island.

They will be living and working alongside remote village communities helping them to build a better future for themselves.

Projects will become involved with include building wells to provide clean water, protecting villagers from the spread of cholera and monitoring endemic and endangered lemur species.

Viv said: "We were interested in volunteering but when we found out about Azafady it really inspired us.

The people and forest of Madagascar are in urgent need of help.

"We hope to make a difference to real people's lives and help protect the precious diversity of wildlife on this truly unique island."

To make a donation on behalf of John and Viv call 020 8960 6629 or donate directly on Viv and John's Azafady fundraising page www.roundtheglobe.co.uk/azafady/
Their campaign fund closes on September 15.
