Organisers have promised the Olympic torch will pass within one-hour's journey from 95 per cent of Britons' homes during its 70-day tour of Britain prior to the Games.
The final route is still being decided, but Derbyshire authorities are hopeful some of the 8,000 nominated torchbearers will carry it through the county.
Ann Wright, Derbyshire County Council head of art, said: "The big thing will be if the torch relay goes through the county. It is very likely that it will come through Derbyshire and if it does we will be hosting lots of activities. It will be a great way of involving lots of organisations."
