SNOW has blanketed the Dales and Peaks since the weekend, causing frustration for motorists and joy for festive children.
And the Met Office has said a white Christmas could be on the cards, with near-freezing temperatures forecast until at least the weekend.

A Met Office spokeswoman said on Monday: "A white Christmas is certainly a possibility, bearing in mind Matlock's really quite high and you could see the odd bit of snow.

"It's going to stay cold through the week, especially at night-time when it could get down to minus five.

"On Friday, there will be some showers around in your part of the country. The question is whether they fall as rain, sleet of snow. We'll know better later on in the week," she added.

The first snowmen and toboggans of the winter arrived in Dales parks on Sunday, as schoolchildren made the most of their Christmas holidays.

But commuters struggled on minor roads, which were extremely icy. Major roads including the A6, A621 and A619 were gritted, but still required careful driving.

Matlock Town's league game on Saturday against Stocksbridge Park Steels was cancelled due to a frozen pitch.

If you have any snow pictures, email them to news@matlockmecury.co.uk.
