A Wirksworth food store has received a prestigious Royal British Legion poppy plaque for their efforts.

The town’s Co-operative was awarded the poppy appeal plaque for their support throughout the Remembrance period.

Mike Harris, RBL vice chairman of the Wirksworth branch and David Champion, RBL member presented the store with the prestigious plaque on Friday, January 15.

Mike Harris and David Champion said: “We’re delighted to present the Wirksworth Co-operative with the plaque for the support and generosity throughout 2015. This is the first year we have worked with the Wirksworth store and over two days we collected a record amount of funds which will go a long way.

“We would like to say thank you to Adrian for being a marvellous host and we look forward to this relationship developing in years to come.”

Co-operative store manager, Adrian Dent, added: “We would like to thank Mike and David from the RBL for their fantastic emblem of gratitude. The team and I are extremely proud to receive our first RBL Poppy Appeal plaque.”
