A night of fundraising and curry-eating at Matlock Town Social Club earned a red-hot £1,400 for national charity recently.

The event, which was organised by Andy Smith and his fiancee Gemma Holstead, set out to raise money for special care baby charity BLISS.

The event attracted 120 guests and offered those in attendance a two-course curry meal sponsored by Irfan, owner of Maazi Indian Restaurant, and entertainment from 60’s Amber Valley group The Tomkatz.

To swell the funds further, a raffle was held with 20 prizes donated from Dales businesses.

A further £250 was raised in a bucket collection after Andy shaved his moustache for the first time in 30 years.

The couple are not prepared to quit whilst they are ahead, though.

Andy is set to run in his third London Marathon for BLISS this year and hopes to raise a total of £2,500 before the end of 2012.
