Year four at St Josephs Primary rounded off their term of greek activities with an olympic games in ancient greek costumes.

Sporting youngsters donned togas, sandals and bangles as a Matlock primary stepped back in time and hosted a Greek-themed Olympic event.

Year four pupils at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, in Chesterfield Road, rounded off their end of term of project with a sports day – dressed in ancient costumes.

Children spent the whole day taking part in the Greek-themed activities including making laurel crown head dresses, eating traditional Greek food and learning about the ancient culture.

Pupils also cheered on their class mates as they took part in a range of sporting races.

A spokesperson for the school said the pupils had enjoyed the event and the Olympic games were a fitting way to end a term learning about ancient Greece.
