Appeal for new Wirksworth carnival queen

WIRKSWORTH carnival committee is urging hopeful queens to come forward to front the annual event in May.

The committee is concerned this could be the first year without a traditional monarch to lead the parade, as time is running out.

Chris Booth, carnival chairman, said the programmes are about to be printed and they would like a photo of the queen in them.

Girls wanted, to be Wirksworth royalty for the next year, need to be aged between five and 16 and can live anywhere as long they represent Wirksworth.

It is a full 12 months commitment as the royalty will be attending other carnivals and courts of up and down Derbyshire and other areas.

Anybody interested can contact Chris on 01629 826899 or Diane the queen retinue officer on 07931 655205.
