PUPILS brushed up on their painting skills for a Christmas competition, which was judged by top local artist Pollyanna Pickering.

The youngsters from St Joseph’s School in Matlock were tasked with painting a scene of their choice, with wildlife Pollyanna invited to pick a winner from the Chesterfield Road school’s six classes.

Every pupil’s canvas was then put on display before being snapped up by parents.

The £500 raised will go towards converting an unused classroom to a new library early next year and will cost around £4,000.

PTA chairman Caroline Rhodes said: “It will look fantastic and colourful when it’s done.”
