A DALES based charity has been awarded £10,000 to produce a film to aid older people with dementia.

First Taste, based in Two Dales, was given the money in the latest round of the East Midlands Lottery’s Awards for All Scheme.

The grant will pay for a DVD, “Where’er You Walk.” The film will be used in care, nursing homes and day centres to stimulate and soothe older people with dementia.

It will also be used to help with care staff training.

Other funding towards the film’s costs has been given by Derbyshire Dales District Council’s Art Development Scheme, Derbyshire Community Foundation and donations received in memory of the late Margaret Cole, former First Taste Trustee.

The film will be shot over the four seasons of the coming year in well known locations and beauty spots across Derbyshire. Former Blue Peter presenter Simon Groom will undertake the film’s commentary which will include well known poems and prose.

The film is set to be launched by the charity’s patron, Baroness Estelle Morris of Yardley, at First Taste’s conference at the Joseph Whitworth Centre next April.
