Bakewell

CHARITY: A charity lunch in aid of the roof appeal for All Saints Parish Church, Bakewell was held in the recently re-furbished and modernisedAssembly Room of the Bakewell Town Hall. It was organised by JudithTwigg.

Over seventy people attended and enjoyed a three course lunch and a glass of wine. Rev Aron Simpson said grace before the meal.

Judith organised most of the food which was augmented by starter and puddings donated by friends and relations. A number also willingly helped by serving the food and two gentlemen manned the drinks table and operated a pay bar for those wishing to quench their thirsts.

Three of Judith’s friends Jean Wharmby, Mary Chaplin and Joy Lacey spent most of the time working in the kitchen along with Lynn Pheasey’s grandson Connor doing most of the washing up.

A very interesting talk was given by Pat Lunn and Judith introduced her as “An Extraordinary Woman” In her career Pat has travelled all over the world and met many people in all walks of life. In spite of this she singled out the time she spent as a town councillor and the privilege of becoming Town Mayor.

Alongside this she said this also applied to her year as president of Bakewell Show. Judith presented her with a bouquet.

The event proved to be financially very successful. Along with ticket sales there was a successful raffle, drink sales, an auction of table decorations and generous donation. After expenses Judith was able to donate £1, 500,00 to the church roof appeal.

Judith was overjoyed and quite emotionally thanked all who had attended and helped in any way at all.

A vote of thanks was given by Chris Shepley who also organised the raffle to Judith on behalf of everyone who supported the splendid event.
