Barlborough hosts a weekend of World War One commemoration activities

The two day festival, from 11am to 4pm, on August 2 and 3, will have many free activities. These include theatrical performances of After the Flags on both days from midday and a children’s short performance titled The Christmas Truce.

A cinema marquee will stream WW1 films and documentaries. Barlborough Heritage’s research will be presented in a marquee.

There will also be an old fashioned Punch and Judy show, traditional children’s games, a WW1 trench exhibit, a wash day exhibit, a memorial and an old tea room, sweet shop and wartime sing-a-long. Professor Brian Stone will be giving a talks, Author Steve Morse will be signing his book about The Sherwood Foresters.

One of Barlborough’s well remembered heroes was Victoria Cross recipient Fred Greaves, pictured, who once lived in the village and survived the war.
