A SCHOOL dinner lady has hung up her apron after 11 years of service.

Jean Carson has been helping to serve up daily hot meals to hundreds of youngsters at Elton Primary School, but stepped down on Thursday.

She has stepped down to spend more time with her family, and was given a tremendous send off by both pupils and staff.

Jean, who lives in the village, received a cake, plenty of cards and because of her love for birds, a special treat for her to spend a day at a falconry.

School secretary Julie Stone said: “She was very popular and will be greatly missed.

“She loved the children and they loved her.

“We had the presentation for her and she was very sad to leave, it was a big day for her and it will be difficult to replace her.”
