Bikers are expected to hit the Dales this weekend for a festival with a difference.
The first Matlock Madness Biker’s Fest will take place off Chesterfeild Road, Matlock Moor, over the bank holiday weekend.
Debbie Daly, and her husband, Chris, came up with the idea to host a music festival especially for bikers .
She said: “There are always thousands of bikers in Matlock at weekends – they seem to love the area – but there’s never been anything for them.”
The couple, of Alfreton, recently bought a plot of land on the outskirts of Matlock with the hope of hosting events there.
They decided they wanted a change of career after their pawn brokerage in Peterborough was the target of armed robbers last year.
With a timescale of just six weeks, the pair have contacted bikers’ groups such as the Harley Davidson group, to attend the event, as well as arrange a worthy line up of musicians to perform all kinds of music – including local bands Blues in the Afternoon and 3 Second Fuse.
A host of local traders will be showcasing their products, including Biker’s Gear Box, of Matlock Bath, and the Tattooed Cake Company, of Belper, which will be providing an unusual skull–shaped cake as a raffle prize.
There will also be ales provided by local brewers and award–winning ciders from Scropton Cider.
The event will feature bike competitions with prizes for best street bike, best American bike and worst bike, as well as tattoo competitions, darts competitions and tug-of-war.
Debbie said: “Getting everything sorted in six week’s has been a bit chaotic, but I’m really excited about it.
“Hopefully if it is a success it’s something that we can continue to do year after year.”
The festival takes place over Saturday, Sunday and Monday and information on buying tickets is available by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or calling 07598126261.
