CLERGYMEN in Kenya have taken hold of their new two-wheeled transport- thanks to the generosity of an Ashover church congregation.

Supporters of All Saints’ Church helped pay for the 125cc Suzuki off-road bikes which are to be used by the two preachers to get around their 46 churches and 11 parishes in the African country.

The machines were bought to honour the Rt Rev Bob Beak, assistant bishop of Derby, and his wife Peggy, for a lifetime’s service to communities at home and overseas. The couple, who are both in their 80s, now live in Ashover and play an active role at All Saints’.

The bikes, which have Bob and Peggy painted on to their fuel tanks, cost £5,000 and will be used in Marsabit, where the couple formerly worked.
