Birchover’s carnival fun

Come along and visit Birchover Carnival, which this year is taking place on Saturday, July 13.

Rykneld Morris Dancers and Patrick Cooke and his monkey barrel organ will entertain visitors from 12noon outside the Druid Inn and Red Lion with the procession meeting at 12.15 pm in the Druid Car Park.

Ashover Brass Band and Darcy Pinel, the 2013 Birchover Carnival Queen, will then lead the colourful fancy dress procession up to the Village Playing Field where the local PTA will serve freshly-made sandwiches, cakes and refreshments. Entertainment on the playing field from 1.00 pm, will include: The Derwent Bowmen, rodeo bull, bungee run, giant inflatable slide, bouncy castle, football and golf game, gymnastics, fairground rides and sideshow stalls, coconut shy, face painting, birds of prey, and plant and craft stalls.

Come and meet Gully Mouse from Gulliver’s Kingdom and have your photo taken by Carol Taylor, local professional photographer, or have a go at making your own skipping rope on a traditional rope making machine.

Visitors can also book onto the Barn Farm Campsite for the night.

Evening entertainment at Barn Farm will run from 6pm until midnight, and will begin with acoustic guitar player Alex Penfold, Sam Draisey, (acoustic singer/songwriter­), followed by the Redfaces, All or Nothing and The Vipers. There will be a bar and a selection of hot food (hand baked pizzas, Thai, fast food) available on site.

Pyrotex Fireworx, who are the International Musical Fireworks Champions 2012, will light up the sky at 10.15pm with their spectacular firework and light display.
