Police in Bakewell are hoping to stump up more cash for Help for Heroes next week in a charity cricket tournament.

Officers will be facing each other in the six-a-side competition at Bakewell Recreation Ground from 3pm on Thursday, August 24.

It is to help them top-up donations following their recent Iron Man Triathlon Relay in July where a group of ten officers covered a distance of just over 140 miles through swimming, running and cycling.

The day long event also included a special Help for Heroes stand on Granby Road and an on street collection by Bakewell Army Cadets.

In total, more than £1500 has been donated to Help for Heroes so far, which includes money raised from a charity football match between the police and local youngsters at Bakewell Recreation Ground in June.

A number of local businesses have helped to support the charity events by donating prizes, offering up facilities, paying for equipment or providing food and refreshments.

PC Kevin Lowe, said: “We have managed to raise a tremendous amount but it would be great if that total could be boosted even further for such a worthy cause.”
